Crossword I by The Holydrug Couple

Unreleased and unfinished music is what appears to be track listed in Crossword I. Compiled after songs (each track was recorded and mixed in just one session) written between January and March of 2020, the album is built on intersected ideas in terms of structure, sound and production. The main element where everything meets is in the immediate process of write and record with, on most of the time, different starting points; a drum machine loop, a string machine echo or a melodic guitar line.
This music wasn’t thought to be the finished product, but, to be a definite scheme or map, to be followed in the future. This stage of production development is what is represented here, a state of the true shape of music being itself, in the halfway of becoming a mastered hit single in a Spotify playlist, or a suggestive 3am voice and guitar demo sung in bed.
To prevent any interpretation or emotional attachment between music and song titles, all the names on the tracks are written/given after words starting with the letter A; as names in instrumental music, are just tags to quickly name drafts and to give a lineal-narrative order in a cd-track. This is it, as the letter A is the first letter of the alphabet and this mix-tape is the first attempt to exhibit music in this deferred form.
With tape delayed guitars, filtered drum loops and cheap tape glitched organ reverberations, this album could, or not, reflect what was happening on a shuffled YouTube homepage selection of videos, and on an unorganized vinyl collection. You can navigate through on, interweaving sound borrowed from Philly Soul, Freak folk, Bossa Nova, Library music, New wave, Ambient, Baroque pop or whatever tag the algorithm feels like to be important to be crossed.
