Lionfish by T H R O N E & Kingjp

This is the record that kickstarted our career. Half of this album was recorded back in the New Mexico mountains during the pandemic. The other half was recorded on the coast of North Carolina, with a few parts recorded in between in Oklahoma.

Lionfish being our establishing record, it was the first time we could truly vent in long form, and show the world who we are and where we come from musically and personally. Messages of love, pain, kindness, hope and despair, in a world so complicated cruel and yet beautiful and joyous. Our styles inspired by MF DOOM, Talib Kweli, Earl Sweatshirt, Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott provided the underground rap x neosoul duality we would gain renown for providing.

The producer and engineers of this album are some of the nicest and most talented people we’ve ever known.

JP from French Canada, graciously provided us every beat he had ever made up until that point to choose from. We found him at 13 youtube subscribers and instantly new he was the one we’d been looking for.

Caio, from Brazil, was the magic ingredient, the glue of the album. JP and us had no idea how to really mix a project, we barely understood how to export the files. Caio’s unending work and creativity made this album the beautiful thing it is.

And lastly, Sam, from Rose Quartz Mastering, our new friend at the time, provided a quality of Mastering, mentorship and feedback that money basically can’t buy.
