Intruder EP by Simularchon
A minimal drum synth EP comprised of sporadic improvisational sessions from 2021-2023.
I wanted to work off of a relatively small number of sound sources in these sessions, so for most of these tracks there are only 2-3 layers tasked with filling the sonic range. There are places where I fear it made the music a bit thin, but ultimately the goal was to highlight the textural and melodic quality of something rhythmic and to have that shape the sound palette. As the EP progresses the palette increases in density until it collapses into feedback on the final track.
A few tracks feature abrupt tempo switches, achieved by using an LFO as the central clock. I wanted the tempo switches to bring out the different tonal qualities of the sounds being explored. Some unease comes with the territory.
The titular Intruder is an invasive form of mental terror that ensnares the mind unexpectedly.
