Whiplash by Sex Germs
It looks like Leicester is deservedly, finally back on the map. Not only is it back on the map, but the current wave of bands there are burning a hole straight through the fucker.
Consisting of time served fast-core stalwarts and local riff-sick rascals, Sex Germs are the new breed of British hardcore punk, that refuse to be tamed by genre convention.
‘Whiplash’ is chocked full of finely crafted smackers that flit between raging Scandi-core rhythms, reminiscent of Swedish tearaways Axe Rash, into early LA Dangerhouse style punk parts, ala The Bags or Alleycats, before finishing you off by rolling into some fucked up, dirgy breakdown, that Pissed Jeans would wish they’d have written.
The guitar work is at times angular, and when woven into the tightly chopped drumming, it almost feels like an ultra tanked up, hardcore take on Wire’s Pink Flag. Sound insane? It most certainly is. And the outrageously brilliant artwork by Cuero Negro is the LSD laced cherry on top. Whatever Sex Germs are smoking must be high grade, and I want some. - B.Suddaby
