"Dark Matter" (2011), Emily Davis' sophomore album, demonstrates a significant growth in the songwriter's creative capabilities. Released only one year after Davis' first effort, "No Real Destination," the album is far more diverse thematically and boasts a remarkable increase in production value (with thanks owed to Mike Minjarez, producer). Crafted with upbeat rhythms, haunting melodies, and darkly optimistic lyrics, "Dark Matter" blends folk punk and acoustic rock with unexpected elements of less orthodox styles.
