Backyard Baseball set out to write an album chronicling the imagined emotional reality of the cast of early 2010s TV hit Jersey Shore.
Instead, they wrote Boy Howdy, ten sprawling tracks spanning a wide variety of influences and sounds, from jangle and dream pop to midwest emo and neo-psychedelia; leaning into a maximalist approach to songwriting and studio magic, as songs warp, build, and cannibalize themselves; and exploring themes of longing, personal/societal collapse, and reconciling past and present.
