Polaris by Andy Pickford

Polaris was supposed to be a RadioSilence project album, but that kinda went out the window as soon as I started adding melodies. After that I just decided to use just about everything and record what sounded cool to my ears. The result sounds pretty strong and may have benefitted from my 2 month break beforehand. It wasn't the best summer for me anyhow and I felt a bit under the weather at times. Even my buggering tomatoes didn't grow much this summer... got plenty of beans though! 4 decent tracks later and I feel a fair bit better. They were fun to do and rewarding to spend a little time over.

Polaris, the title track is -almost- RadiosSilence, except it's got a melodic intro and later builds into a more complex arrangement. So it sorta is and it sorta isn't.

Dreamtime. This is very much a composed, arranged melodic piece. Very haunting it is too.

Cygnus Lightship. Well, intended to be a cosmic sounding EM piece, but made a little more fun by having a quirky tempo and a somewhat uplifting melodic content.

Dark Pyramid. Inspired by the one in Alaska which of course isn't officially there, except it is. Allegedly. Dark, foreboding and all such nice sounding stuff!

I presented this album in a mastered version post-Atmos mix and the Atmos mixes just as they are. I worry about mastering Atmos mixes through my normal process because Atmos creates a sound as though it's within a room space. I'm concerned that adding various compression and limiting factors may constrain the Atmos environment, squeeze down the sound field etc. So I'm a bit iffy about tinkering much with the mixes after that point.
